  1. It is now September, the kids are back in school and Summer is over, Fall is on the way and Winter not far behind.  We just returned from the Marion County Blueberry Festival.  What a wild weekend, Friday and Saturday temperatures in the 90's and 100's with 100 percent humidity.  Sunday and Monday temperatures dropped to 50-70 degrees and everyone need jackets.  The vendor across from us was selling hats and scarfs, did nothing Friday or Saturday, sales jumped Sunday and Monday.  Just goes to show you never know.

We discovered that some shows are not the best for our products, and that was one of the worst for us.  No one really wanted to carry a bird feeder much less the Tela-Pole around and parking was far from our booth; so sales were slow to say the least.

We did sell all the hummingbird feeders, and oriole feeders that we had, so things were not all bad.  We met lots of great bird feeding friends and I learned things that I did not know about butterfly's, raccoons and squirrels.  It is so nice that everyone I met is so knowledgeable and willing to share, because I love to learn new things all the time.

We are going to the Valparaiso In Popcorn Festival this Saturday so if you are in the area come by our booth and say Hi.  Our booth is located on Lafayette and Lincolnway just around the corner from the Front Porch Music.

I had a wonderful young boy that was telling me all about the butterfly and how he ate at the feeders we sell, whomever his teacher was last year did a great job, he even remember the name of the feeder or proboscis .  He explained how it functioned and everything.

Day is getting late, so I hope to see many of you at the Popcorn Festival on Saturday September 10th.  Check out the website for the "new" products we have added, including the 2 arm Tela-Pole in white and clay.  The pictures are from the Blueberry Festival, so you can see the Circus tent we were in.  That tent was a life saver when the weather changed, and the wind blew.

Remember to keep your hummingbird feeders clean and full for the migrating birds, they will love the food and rest on their journey to South America.

    That's it for today.

  2. Things are really moving fast, last blog it was Spring, now it is August.  Where did the summer go?  School is just around the corner, and Fall is not far behind.

We are selling products at the Saint John Farmers market in Indiana, and have been to several shows this summer.  We are going to be at the Marion County Blueberry Festival in Plymouth Indiana over Labor Day weekend, so if you are in the area, stop in and see the demo for the Tela-Pole.  We have sold and installed several and everyone seems pleased with the look and the fact that the squirrels cannot get to the bird seed, and the raccoons cannot destroy the feeders.

Had a good showing at the Crete Garden Walk and Faire made some sales, and had a good time with the customers, and other vendors.  Found a great wine a rita mix that is FAB!!  It turns wine into a slush and for these dog day's of summer, you cannot beat it to cool you off.  Now I can sit back and watch the birds, and sip something cool and refreshing at the same time.

The humid weather is really keeping me indoors lately, it is so hard to garden in this weather, so the weeds just keep getting bigger and bigger.

We are down sizing and seling our house so if you know of anyone looking for a professionally landscaped walk out ranch on 2.9 acres, in Indiana, send them my way.

That is about all for today, will try and do better with this blog.

  3. Hello,

    Hi again,

Well Spring is almost here, which means the migrating birds will be returning to the "north" country where we live.  So today, I am posting some migration information for those of you who feed the hummingbird', grosbeak's bunting', bluebird', and the millions of other migrating birds.

For the hummingbird migration information go to www.hummingbirds.net/map.html.  This will show you when and where the hummingbirds are now, so you can plan on putting out your feeders.  Check out our sale on hummingbird feeders, if you need some new items this year.

For the eastern blue birdsgo to www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Eastern_Bluebird/lifehistory.  For the western bluebirds check out www.seattleaudubon.org/birdweb/bird_details. although Western Bluebirds do not go far with their migration.

For the grosbeaks go to http://www.migrationresearch.org/mbo/id/rbgr.html, this will show you the red throated grosbeaks.

For a general migration of all birds this is the best websitethat I have found, it shows all of the migratorybirds, you will just have to scroll down to find the one you want.  http://www.npwrc.usgs.gov/resource/birds/migration/routes.htm

Don't forget to stock up on the meal worms for the bluebirds, and make some nectar for the orioles .

If you are looking to put up a bluebird house this year, check out the Tela-Pole, you can mount a bluebird house directly to the pole, and the snakes and racoon's cannot climb the pole so the bluebirds and the eggs will be safe from predators.  If you decide to mount the house, please us screws that will only penetrate the pole by 1/2" or it will not slide properly for you.  There is only a 1/2" clearance between the 4x4 and the 5x5 vinyl post for stability, so that is all the clearance you have for the screws.

Questions about the pole or the bluebird houses, just hit the contact button and send them to me, we will answer promptly and tell you exactly how to set up the pole, and attach the bird house properly.

    Again,

    Happy Birding

Most of the above info is still current, so I am leaving it.  We are going to be "live" at the Pond and Garden Expo this Saturday and Sunday in Crown Point In, so please come by our booth and visit.  We will gladly demonstrate the amazing "Tela-Pole" and you can try it for yourself to see how easy it goes up and down.  We have hand made hummingbird feeders from Utah, and hand made seed feeders from Colorado.  These are truely a unique feeders, and would be an asset in any yard.

May 21st is the Lake County Master Gardeners Native Plant sale, and yes we will be a vendor there also.  We are donating a door prize at the plant sale, so come by see the vendors, and purchase some native plants for your gardens.  You can go to http://www.ag.purdue.edu/county/lake/Documents/ANR/2011MGPlantSale.pdf to preorder your plants, then you just have to come in and pick them up.

We will be at the Popcorn Festival in Valparaiso In this year, so if you miss us this weekend or the 21st, put the Popcorn Festival on your calendar and stop by our booth.

Someday, I am sure the rain will stop, and we can actually get out and work in our yards, in Indiana.  I do know that Aspen Co area got hit with 2 feet of SNOW!!  For the skiers, this is good news, for the gardeners, not so much.

Alot of the country is flooding now with all the rain, and our thoughts and prayers are with you.  Also, we are praying for those who lost everything in the Tornados last weekend.  Spring weather is volatable in some areas of our great county, and so placid in others.   Having gone through 2 floods, and one tornado, I know how bad things can be.

I am going to put some new products on the website next week, so check back for those, and again

    Happy Birding
